Node Zero
This is where the network all comes together. As you have probably noticed on the preceding pages I have a somewhat extensive network of computers. Well Node Zero is where the main server is setup, it contains the profiles, login information, and is hooked up to both the wireless and wired portion of my network. This server also controls the automation software, the internet connection, and acts as the file/print server for the network. This computer also handles security functions for the house (camera, alarm etc) however there is another computer setup and the network will switch to the backup automatically if needed.
I have built this into a rather unassuming cabinet which is locked 99% of the
time (when you have a 4 year old it pays to be diligent on locking stuff).
I initially wanted to build this into something a bit more
"professional" but in the end this works, is very sturdy, and unless
you know it is there you would never guess its use.
I currently have the server (laptop based), a battery backup, a switch, and a
printer setup at node 0. Other items have been added through the years but
the core has always remained the same.
