I took a class at Arkansas Tech that concentrated on GIS.  We used ArcGIS software (among others).  At the end of the class we had to come up with a project to show how to integrate GIS software with other software.

So I decided to map every Ham Radio Operator in Arkansas.  This turned out to be a somewhat large project (well over 10,000 records) however I was able to complete it in a reasonable period of time.  There were a few records (approx 60) that I had to reject because they did not have an address that could be geo-coded.

The Presentation below shows the outputs of every ham radio operator in Arkansas as well as a printout showing all known repeaters in Arkansas.

I pulled data from the following sources.

FCC Ham Radio Database
pulled from UALR.edu

BatchGeocode.com FCC.gov
This allowed me to get the names and addresses of every ham radio operator in Arkansas This site allowed me to encode the addresses in order to get GPS Coordinates for each address. I pulled a lot of data from FCC.gov, This site also had links which enabled me to format all of the data into 1 useable format

Fun Facts:
At the time this project was completed there were approx 9500 registered ham radio operators in Arkansas.
